Nigerian artists; Hope Ojochide Akinola (nee Abutu) sing a love song to God!

One of the Nigerian artists in contemporary christian music, Hope Ojochide Akinola (nee Abutu) is a worship leader, singer and songwriter who primarily writes worship and gospel songs.

Hope was born in Idah, Kogi state, Nigeria in 1973, but grew up in Makurdi, Benue state, Nigeria.

As she was growing up, she developed interest in singing in church and at age thirteen, she joined Bristow Secondary School choir, Gboko( Benue state) and later joined Government Girls College Makurdi choir when she changed her school. At age sixteen, Hope gave her life to Jesus.

After her Secondary School education, she joined an unnamed music group before she got admission to study English at University of Ibadan, Nigeria, after which she proceeded to University of Abuja, Nigeria for her Masters degree in English Language.

Presently, Hope is a member of the Solution Centre choir, Lokoja, Nigeria and has ministered in several churches in Nigeria. She is a lecturer at Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja and also writes poems, some of which are based on her belief and faith.

Although Hope has been singing from childhood, her music ministry became pronounced in 2009 with the release of her first album titled `Loving you Lord'. Apart from two worship songs, all other tracks of that collection are love songs for Jesus. `Take the Whole of me' and `Loving you Lord' are the most loved of that collection.

Her second album titled `In Your Presence' was released in 2012. Apart from `You are my Desire' and `Thank you Jesus', all other songs in that collection are on her love and desire for God`s presence. All the tracks of that collection are greatly desired.

Hope`s third album titled `Your Word' which will soon be released comprises mostly songs on the word of God. Listening to her songs inspires worship and deep commitment to God.

The third of six children, Hope is married to Mr Michael Akinwale Akinola, also a Nigerian.
Giving credit to God for the composition of the songs, she says, “I cannot take pride in them, because the Holy Spirit Himself releases them. I am just His channel".
